Flora of Kežmarok and its surroundings

Flora around Kežmarok with the penetration of mountain species of the High Tatras is
diverse. Several endangered and protected plant species can occur in foothill meadows
and in heavily waterlogged localities, where in some places the groundwater level rises to
the surface.
Spruce forests (originally beech) predominate in the surrounding of Kežmarok. We can
f
ind here the Scots pine, Norway spruce, European larch, mountain maple, mountain ash,
common ash, rock willow, silver birch, hawthorn, blackthorn, and elder tree.
This area is characterized by spring snowdrop, forest violet, forest forget-me-not,
globe-flower, sedge, Spiš saffron, meadow saffron
