Cemeteries

The historical Cemetery was established for Protestants
in 1674. In 1784, Catholics were buried there as well. The
oldest stone epitaph dates to 1691. The graves of the
executed leaders of Kežmarok, Jakub Kray, Martin Lány
and Sebastian Toperczer are from 1709. Other figures of
the scientific and cultural life of the town, the Spiš region,
but also of Central Europe rest in the Cemetery. The place
for the Jewish Cemetery was determined in 1873, the
burying began in 1875 – 1876. More than 550 tombstones
from the period of the 19th and 20th century are preserved.
