Castle – museum

The first written reference to the Castle is from 1463
its construction is associated with the name of Hungarian
family of Zápolya. In 1528, the Castle was taken over by
Polish family of Lasky. Backing up in 1579, the Castle
and the town of Kežmarok fell illegally into the hands of
Thököly family. Its four generations resided in Kežmarok
until 1684. The last owner of the Castle was Ferdinand
Rueber. In 1702, the town purchased the Castle into its
ownership. Presently, the whole Castle area serves for
museum exposures that document the development of
the town from its establishment to the beginning of the
20th century
