Alfred Grosz Monument

Apart from the fact that Alfred Grosz was a professor at the Kežmarok Lycée and an im
portant Spiš polyhistor, he was primarily a Tatra scientist. He loved the Tatras very much
and when he was 42 years old, he reached all their peaks. He promoted the Tatras a lot,
took tours with his students, took photographs, wrote articles and even short stories about
them. He was also known for his anti-fascist attitudes. He saved Jews, partisans, refugees.
He died in 1973.
In his honor, a park bearing his name was opened in Kežmarok. A memorial plaque and
a bronze bust of Alfred Grosz were also unveiled. The gutter and pillar in the north-eastern
wall of Slavkovský peak are named after Professor Grosz. He is the only one Kežmarok
native to be honored in such way.
