The Church dates to the times of religious lack of freedom of
Protestants who were, according to the 26th Article of the Diet
of Sopron from 1681, allowed to build churches just outside
the city walls at a specified lot and exclusively at the expense
of the church. The first foundations of the Church were built
as early as in 1687 – 1688. In 1717, the Church was rebuilt
into its today’s look in the folk Baroque style. It is a national
cultural site and a UNESCO World Heritage site as well.
